Northern Pines Farmers Institute

The North Pines Farmers′ Institute was originally formed in the 1920′s. A farmers′ institute is similar in structure to an agricultural co-operative (though is covered under its own unique legislation).

THE CHALLENGE

The private firm operating the Northern Pines Farmers grain railhead shut down its operation in 2010. This left the farmers without access to the larger global grain markets. Funding was required to return ownership of the railhead to the community and restore its operation and export.
